Homophones are words that sound the same but have a different meaning or spelling. After reading some books about homophones students were inspired to come up with their own list. Mathemáticas: Measuring perimeter
Students applied their understanding of perimeter to create Minecraft monsters on grid paper. Their task involved drawing the monster's body with specific perimeter measurements and understanding that different shapes can have the same perimeter. Students will move from previous work relating the number of days to a week and months to a year, to also include seconds to a minute, minutes to an hour, and days to a month. Students will also learn about measuring and recording length, width, height, and perimeter of 2-D shapes and 3-D objects using personal referents and the standard units of centimeter and metre. Later students will be introduced to measuring and recording mass in the standard units of gram and kilogram using balance scales. These are the skills students will be practicing the following week -eye contact -content -voice Over 8,000 Calgary and area students packed the Saddle Dome and were given pink shirts in honour of Pink Shirt Day, in an effort to rally against bullying. Pink Shirt Day was an idea originated by a pair of high school students from Nova Scotia back in 2007. They witnessed a fellow student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, so they decided to take a stand. Take a look in our photo section for some awesome pics of us at the game! What is bullying?Discussing appropriate strategies to deal with conflict and undesirable behaviors in friends and classmates in one of the main themes in the grade three Health program of studies. It is important to know the vocabulary we use in these situations at schools.
Inspired by a book, students used their creativity to imagine everyday objects having unusual and unexpected uses.
Watercolour and salt to create a textured background.Newspaper cutouts and tempera paint to create our objectsMagazine letters to share our unexpected usesLearning about services needed in a community is a major component of our Social Studies curriculum in grade three. Did you know that 783 million people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water? We are grateful to have such amazing water treatment facilities in Calgary, along with access to health care in case we get sick. With the help of CAWST, grade threes learnt all about safe drinking water, sanitation, and the hygiene services needed to stay healthy. They followed the story of Tihko, a small girl from Zambia, who helped her community learn about sanitation and hygiene technologies.
Awesome assembly by the grade two students, as well as the choir and Boy's Band! |
