Que Pasa @ The Jubilee Auditorium
On Monday, May 8, Spanish bilingual program school students from across the CBE came together at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium for an evening in celebration of Spanish language, music and culture. Ten Spanish bilingual schools were represented by over 750 student performers in an extravaganza of song, dance and art. English Language Arts: Poetry writing
Students:
-Brainstormed and classified NOUNS, -ING VERBS, ADJECTIVES that described and were connected to the word mother. -Followed the poem structure called "the Diamante" to write their poetry, in where the text forms the shape of a diamond. Line 1: Noun or subject - one word Line 2: Two Adjectives that describe line 1 Line 3: Three 'ing words that describe line 1 Line 4: Four nouns - the first two are connected with line 1; the last two are connected with line 7 Line 5: Three 'ing words that describe line 7 Line 6: Two adjectives that describe line 7 Line 7: Noun Synonym for the subject Matematicas: Multiplicacion y Division
Students:
-Played a series of math games to develop understanding of mulplication of numbers up to 25 - Practiced their division skills making equal groups from numbers less than 30 - Students who have already mastered multiplication and division were given larger numbers to work with and more ambiguous word problems to continue moving their skills and understanding forward - Read the story Llaman a la Puerta por Pat Hutchins - Retelled the story in the next five boxes, wrote five mathematical sentences that are presented in the story. In the last two boxes students made up their own final parts of the story. Arte in progress: PrintMaking
Students:
-continued learning about the cultures and arts from Peru, Ukraine, India and Tunisia -read about Incas' art work with gold -transferred a Peruvian print of their choice to styrofoam using a pen - will continue working on the next final steps to create a print Humanitarian Design
Students were visited again by our friends over at CAWST (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology). This time they were given a humantiarian design challenge and were asked to think of potential ways to respond to a water/sanitation need. Students created prototypes of their designs and presented to the group for feedback.
Interdiciplinary Project
The grade 3s are wrapping up their community building projects and getting ready to share their hard work at our Academic Sharing night (Thursday, May 18). We had so much fun working on a project that incorporated so many difference disciplines. Great work grade 3s!
